In 1979-80 Hunter Allied Diving Service was involved with
the demolition of the original Newcastle Floating dock prior
to the installation of the new dock "Muloobinba".
Divers were trained in all aspects of underwater cutting
(Thermal lance, oxy arc, Brocco and flame cutting) Each
section of dock was cut away and removed by 120ton Floating
crane.
The divers
worked on this cutting project for 6 months straight. At
the completion of works Hunter Allied Diving Service had
at it's disposal a crew of highly trained divers specializing
in underwater cutting. Twenty
years on this experience is still available in Newcastle.
Using the flame cutting system it is possible to cut at
twice the speed with half the cost of consumables against
popular methods of underwater cutting.
